Here is the information regarding education for Au Pairs from Go Au Pair.
Every Au Pair must register and attend classes offered by an accredited U.S. post secondary institution for not less than six semester hours of academic credit or it’s equivalent Preapproval for schools can be given from the corporate office. Au Pairs must simply submit the Education Preapproval Request Form provided in the Welcome Packet. Standard Au Pairs must complete 6 credit hours and EduCare Au Pairs must complete 12 credits. 72 classroom hours equate to 6 credit hours.
An Au Pair may complete any course she or he wishes; it does not have to be an English language class. If an Au Pair attended a class and tried to complete it but received a failing grade, Go Au Pair can still accept the credit. If the Au Pair failed because she did not attend class, Go Au Pair will not be able to accept it.
The following colleges offer special classes for Au Pairs in the Philadelphia and NJ area
Bucks County Community College, Newtown, PA
Burlington County College, Pemberton, NJ
Butler County Community College, Butler
Camden County College, Different Campuses, NJ
Community College of Philadelphia, Philadelphia
Delaware County Community College, Media

Wilmington University, Wilmington, DE
The Department of State no longer approves schools such as CW Post in Long Island, New York or College of Saint Rose in Albany, NY (both 3 day courses that fulfill all educational requirements) for all Au Pairs. The school needs to be within driving distance for an Au Pair to go so it is considered a local course, otherwise it is considered a “travel” or “weekend” course, which the Department of State does not accept.
Those Au Pairs wanting to extend must complete their educational requirement by their 10th month.
Educational institutions must be accredited by approved accrediting agencies to be acceptable. The Dept. of Education has a list of approved accrediting agencies on their website. If you are unsure or have questions, please do not hesitate to contact Go Au Pair corporate office.
Each “host family participant agrees to facilitate the enrollment and attendance of the Au Pair and to pay the cost of such academic course work in an amount not to exceed $500.00.” Families are also responsible for providing transportation to and from the courses.
Good luck with your studying.
