Thanksgiving – time for family, friends, food and giving thanks.

Hey guys,  I’m here today to talk about Thanksgiving as an Au Pair with my lovely host family. As you already know I’m au pair from Ukraine, and we don’t celebrate this Holiday there.Au Pair Bucks County Maria 2

It is my second Au Pair year in Bucks County, PA.  Last year I had my first thanksgiving day with my host family and I absolutely loved it.

It is a special holiday when a whole day focused on spending time with families and friends.  Everyone trying to get together for the dinner and it is the busiest day for traveling.  People are driving home to see their parents, siblings and friends.  It feels like as important as a Christmas time.Maria Au Pair from Bucks County

For the dinner must have thing is of course turkey.  Most of the people buying already cooked turkey but there are still some very traditional families who cooking by themselves. The hosts are usually getting the main meal and guests bring salads, mushed potato, some deserts, and drinks. People chatting and saying what they are thankful for the past year. Thanksgiving is a time for giving thanks for our good fortune and most of all for family, host family and friends, those treasured people who make our lives extra special.

I’m looking forward for my second Thanksgiving in the USA! It is one of my favorite  holidays that I experienced in USA.

Enjoy your Thanksgiving!!!

Xoxo, your Ukrainian au pair Mariia

Halloween in the US. Cultural differences.

Hey guys, It is Mariia, Ukrainian au pair again. It is my second Au Pair year in Bucks County, PA with my awesome host family I want to share with you today about my Au Pair experience and cultural differences.

Happy Autumn and enjoy the magic of this beautiful season! Fall in the US has two my favorite holidays – the first one is Halloween and the second one is Thanksgivings.  Thanksgiving dinner get together is very important for everyone here.Au Pair from Ukraine Maria 1

So let’s start from Halloween. For me as a person who came from Europe (Ukraine)  Halloween is supposed to be the scariest day of the year. So you have to look as scary as possible. Your costume, your make up  and even a hair style should be very scary. So my expectation about Halloween was really wrong.

For American Halloween is a big exciting day.   Here, in the US,  you  don’t need to be scary and you don’t really need a special make up. It is just a day for dressed up. More like a carnival.

Kids in costumes go from house-to-house asking for treats with the phrase “Trick or treat” and American are happily waiting for kids to give them the sweets.  There are many people outside dressed up. Almost every single house decorate nicely and it’s just cool to watch while you drive at night.  It makes me feel really special and I like it!  Kids are getting as much candies as possible and enjoying  their”treat or tricks” adventure.

Happy Halloween  “Щасливого Хелоуіну”,  Trick-or-Treat “Пригощай або пошкодуєш” 🙂  and you are ready to celebrate Halloween in Ukraine!

Au Pair vacation and hostel experience

Maria, Au Pair from Ukraine, kindly shared about her vacation in the USA and experience of living in the hostel. That is such a pleasure to read Maria’s posts! I also like Maria’s advice, “Don’t collect the things -collect the moments.”

Hi guys! I just came back from my vacation. I spent 8 nights in Venice, California. First time I was traveling by myself and first time I was staying in hostel. Be honest it was absolutely one of the coolest experience I have done.Au Pair from Ukraine Mari aa
I will give you a few reasons why:
1. Cheap. You saving some money.
2. You can meet so many cool people. I was staying in an international hostel by the Venice beach and met a lot of new friends from all around the world. People will give you good advice about interesting places. We were sharing uber, another reason to save some money, went for hiking together, saw Hollywood sign, partying.  Every day I had a great company for the beach. We even took an uber and went to see Malibu beach for all day. Au Pair from Ukraine Maria
3. My location was perfect, the hostel was close to bus stop, food places, market, 20 min to famous Venice beach, 10 min to Venice canals. When you are lazy you can take a bus – it costs 1$.
4. In the end of the day if you don’t want to go out everyone downstairs is chatting and having great time.Maria Au Pair Ukraine.
5. The stuff was brilliant. They created the best atmosphere, always helped with advise on transportation and best places to visit.
6. I was very sad to leave. For sure I will never forget my trip to California. And that hostel will be an amazing memory of my American life.
P.S. Don’t collect the things collect the moments. Enjoy your life and travel as much as you can! ❤️

A limo ride with my host kid!

Hey guys, It is Mariia, Ukrainian au pair again. I live in Bucks County, PA with my awesome host family
Happy Spring! Summer is coming up and the weather is very warm and lovely!
Today my story will be about my limo! Yes, Mariella, my older host kid, and I call it limo! Maria from Ukraine

Every morning my princess Mariella and I have the coolest ride to school! No, it’s not a car, it is a bike with a track for kids! It has a windows there so Mariella can look around during our trip to school. Mariella has a protection from the bugs so no one can disturb her, and she has place for bottle of water there!Maria Bucks County Au Pair

We are having so much fun riding this cool Limo.  All our neighbors know us and they are friendly waving and saying hi to us. School personal saying, “oh, limo has arrived!” It is really cool and helpful for us  – instead of 15-20 min walking – it takes like 7-8 min riding ! It’s really good exercise and helps me wake up in the morning.

When I come to pick up Mariella from school every single parent wants to open the limo and they all  say WOW! That is so cool!Maria Au Pair Ukraine

Thank you my host mom Alla Gerzon for such a nice gift! We love it!
I hope you read the Ukrainian Au Pair storyFollow my dreams,  about My lovely hometown in Ukraine  and my vacation in Mexico with my host family and many other stories!

Vacation in Mexico with my host family!

Hi Everyone, It is Maria, Au Pair from Ukraine, who lives in Bucks County PA with the awesome host family. You may read about my Au Pair year before. One of my favorite thing is, of course, a vacation! Recently my host mom sent me a message on Facebook and said, ” Maria, can I please have your passport info because we are off for a week and going to Mexico!”Au Pair Bucks County PA 2
I was super exiting! I am crazy about traveling and Mexico was always one of the places  I always wanted to visit! So I contacted Go Au Pair agency and sent them the DS 2019 form to stamp for my trip.  The agency sent me the form back very quickly and I was ready to travel.  Who knew that I will spend one week in a real paradise? Even the name of that resort is Paradisus❤️Au Pair Bucks County PA 1Food, beach, sun, shows, people whom you love around! My host family and I were having so much fun! It was a super cool vacation! We were swimming with dolphins, kids had a lot of fun with kids club, we met a lot of nice people! Mexico will always be in my heart! Our family loved Mexican vacation very much!Au Pair Bucks County PA
Of course, we had a lot of funny situations.  For example, I lost my passport in the airport in Mac Donald’s 😂But thanks, God, the Philadelphia’s personal in the airport were very kind and they found me and gave my passport back right next to the plane!
Then, our kids love cabin crew,  so we are always having lovely conversation with the team! Be honest,  if I were a film producer, I would record the movie about our vacation in Mexico! It was very cool, joyful and fun!Au Pair Bucks County PA
Thank you, my dear Alla Gerzon, who is my host mom, who is my best friend, who is my sister, who is an example how to be a Superwomen, Wonder-women and just a Supermom for a such opportunity to explore not only many special places in the States, but also such a lovely country as Mexico!P.S. The Gerzon family is the best!!!

My lovely hometown in Ukraine.

Hey, It is Mariia again. I hope you read the Ukrainian Au Pair storyFollow my dreams  and about my awesome host family family in the US. Today, I want to tell you about my lovely hometown in Ukraine. I came from Cherkasy, it is a city in Central Ukraine, that has been known since the 13th century, so it’s quite an old place and still you can see a lot of things from the former USSR. My city played a great role in the history of Ukraine.Au Pair Bucks County 1

What reminds me about my city is it is my home sweet home, it is the place when I’m happy, where are all my family and my lovely friends are, and where my cat is.Au Pair Bucks County 4

One of my favorite place in Cherkasy it’s Castle Hill (Hill of Glory). The memorial complex with a monument “Motherland” is standing at the top of the former Castle Hill.Au Pair Bucks County

The view is unbelievable. You can see the beauty of the main river and our main bridge. My city is situated on the Dnipro River, it is huge and beautiful. It is funny but another favorite place of mine in Ukraine is a night club called Manhattan. We even have the bull that is the main symbol of this party place.Au Pair Bucks County 3

The style of people from Cherkasy are so different. People like to dress nice, put on make up  and go to work with happy faces. Compared with Americans, they spend hours to get ready to go to work. Even if you work on the bus, you need to put your eye shadow and your lipstick on! It is funny!Au Pair Bucks County 2Each time when I’m at home it brings a smile to my face. We have so many different restaurants and cafes. Another famous place in Cherkasy is  New York pizza. The food is so yummy.Au Pair Bucks County 5

I love my city! It’s probably not the best place to go in Ukraine but it is so special for me.

Au Pair education experience in the US

Hi, It is Maria, Au Pair from Bucks County, PA. You may read already that I recently joined  the Au Pair program and I always dream to visit NY . My American education experience also relates to NY.
Au Pair program gives the Au Pairs great opportunities to study in a real american  college and explore American culture! I chose to take my first course as two classes in the college with a trip to New York!  I took two Sundays classes at Peirce college in Philadelphia already. The 3rd Sunday will be the final trip to the Big Apple! I  had very lovely time during my classes, met a lot of new friends from all around the world, learned more about a history of New York.Au Pair classes 1

I had fun with my home work and did absolutely great job with my final project about New York Fashion Week!Au Pair classes 4

The classes were a little long. It took long hours but you don’t really pay attention when you have a great time.Au Pair classes 3

We had a lot of interesting activities, lovely lunch time, watched great American shows, found out about a lot of secret places of NY that I will definitely visit them in future!Au Pair classes 2

Our teacher was great! He was joking  and telling us the stories about a real New Yorker’s life style. It was fun! I was happy to feel like a student again.Au Pair classes

Now I’m looking forward to go to many amazing places in NY next Sunday with very lovely company!

P.S. Enjoy your time to be an au pair and it’s never late to learn something new!❤️  Best regards, Mariia from Ukraine.

Visiting New York -my dream came true!

Hi everyone! Its your Ukrainian Au Pair Mariia Bilous. It was a big transition moving from my lovely small town Cherkassy to the US. However, I live now also in a small town Jamison at Bucks County, PA with my awesome host family. Visiting New York has always been my dream.Au Pair from Bucks County 3

As an Au Pair I can travel a lot and I already had the chance to visit this incredible city.  NY is a city of contrasts.Au Pair from Bucks County

What comes to mind when I think of New York? definitely Time square!  This must be the busiest street in America. You can see so many different nationalities, so many different types of people, starting from tourists and ending with celebrities and business people. Au Pair from Bucks County 2

In my eyes, this city is different from any other. All the buildings are so different. Most of them are huge and the styles are so varied. You can see very old buildings with amazing architecture and very modern buildings on just on opposite side of the street.Au Pair from Bucks County 5

You can read the full story New York by the eyes of Ukrainian Au Pair.Au Pair from Bucks County 1

I like New York and  I’m looking forward to seeing this amazing city again! New York it’s definitely the place every one has to visit!

My awesome host family.

Hi everyone! Its your Ukrainian Au Pair Mariia Bilous  and today I would like to share about my host family. If you read Ukrainian Au Pair story and Follow my dreams you may know already that I live in a beautiful part of America – Bucks County, PA, near Philadelphia with my host family. I have an incredible family of an amazing strong woman – my host mom Alla Gerzon, and two cute princesses Mariella and Elianna and a lovely dog with a very beautiful name Baila (it means dance in Spanish).Maria Au Pair from Bucks County

My host mom Alla is like my sister. She is a young and very friendly person, who always helps me to explore American culture, and is always by my side and taught me a lot of new things. Please read the nomination essay about my amazing host family to the Host Family in Excellence Award. Go Au Pair Bucks County 2

My host kids Mariella and Eliana stole my heart! At bedtime, after reading them fairytales, I have to kiss and give them hugs over 10 times, because they are so cute and I love them so very much!

They are very smart and creative girls, and they can speak 2 languages (English and Russian). I always have fun with them!
