It’s time to say goodbye

Ophelia’s Diary.

Tomorrow is time to say goodbye and move forward. I am going to be an Au Pair in Las Vegas, not  in Philadelphia anymore. I am really excited about my new life in Las Vegas but in the meantime I feel so sad I have to say goodbye to everyone here.

Then I will miss all my friends here so much. I have all these wonderful Au Pair friends from Go Au Pair. We did lots of volunteer work together. I really hope their new project Walk Now Autism Speaks works well.

Au Pair friends

Specially my Local Area Representative (LAR) Polina, I will miss her so much. She really helped me a lot with my blog and my life here. She is just like an angel to me. I will come back to visit everyone here in the future.

Au Pair and LAR

There will be for a few days you can not hear from me. Because before I start to work with my new host family in Las Vegas I will take one week’s vacation first. After everything is settled down in Las Vegas for me, I will come back and share more of my Au Pair stories with you!

Au Pair’s International Pot-Luck and Raising funds for Autism

Ophelia’s Diary.

This was my last Au Pair activity in Philadelphia, also one of my favorite Au Pair meeting. We had an international Pot- Luck. As we had Au Pair from South Africa, Colombia, Ecuador, China, Mexico, Germany, Ukraine and El Salvador at the meeting, we tried food from 8 countries. The food was so delicious.

Au Pair international Pot- luck

I feel so lucky we have Au Pairs from so many different countries. Different background makes us all unique. But on the other hand, we are similar as we are all caring Au Pairs from Go Au Pair!

Au Pair internatioanl

After the Pot-Luck, we had an auction to raise funds for Autism. Please join our team on facebook. Every Au Pair brought some items which were wrapped in bags, then we all participated in the auction. the Au Pair Auction

Au Pair Annie was the auctioneer. The events went very well. We raised $220 totally. The participators got something they like as well.

One day in Atlantic City

Ophelia’s Diary.

Still remember last summer Au Pair Adriana and I went to Atlantic City together. At that time both of us just started our Au Pair jobs, we were so excited about everything. Now both of us are moving soon. I am going to Las Vegas, Adriana will go to San Francisco. Before we leave, we decided to go Atlantic City again.

Au Pair friend

We had a really fun time there. Walking along the strip, playing on the beach, shopping around the mall, all of these made me remember the good time we had during the past year.

Au Pair Atlantic City

Adriana is one of my best Au Pair friends here. We are always talking a lot and sharing lots of stories together. We are both so lucky to have great host families. I appreciate my host family so much, so I am going to nominate them as the Host Family of the Year. Hope my wonderful host family can win!

Church Class Picnic

Ophelia’s Diary.

As summer vacation is coming, last week we just finished our English class in the church. Then we had a picnic to celebrate it.

Au pair church picnic

We went to Japanese Garden together. Most of the students in the class were  senior citizens, they came to America because their children live here. But as they don’t know English and they don’t drive, it’s really hard for them to get a chance to go out.

Au Pair church picnic

I am so glad I could help them enjoy a nice picnic in the Japanese Garden. Everyone was so happy. They said thank you to me and other coworkers from the church all the time.

They all know I am an Au Pair from Go Au Pair, and I just found a new host family in Las Vegas. They said they will miss me very much after I leave. Surly, I will miss them very much too.

Chinese Au Pair volunteered in America

Ophelia’s Diary.

One of the best memory for my first Au Pair year is volunteering! Even though I just been here less than one year, I already volunteered four times. As I am leaving to my new host family soon, I would like to share all my volunteering experience with you. Volunteer.Philadelphia Go Au pair Recently our Local Area Representative(LAR) Polina helped us find the chance to volunteer for Newtown Welcome Day. We helped distribute promotional items. By the end of the event, you can see almost everyone had green bags on their backs! We worked really hard for it. Au Pair Newtown Welcome Day Our Au Pair group volunteered for Philadelphia Marathon and Flower Show Before. Every event is unique. For example, we helped give out snacks during Marathon, we worked together as a team not just with Au Pairs but with thousands of Volunteers from other places. It gave us a chance to make friends with other volunteers too. Also, because it was free snacks, almost everyone took them happily. But during Newtown Welcome Day what we gave out were promotional items, some people did refuse to take it. So in this way, I will say I like Marathon better. IMG_20131117_125431 Philadelphia Flower Show was even more unique! We helped people did flower hats in the Make and Take room. I love volunteering for the Flower Show so much, because I helped people design different kinds of hats also I made a cute flower hat for myself! Au Pair Philadelphia Besides volunteering together with other Au Pairs from Go Au Pair, I taught English in Chinese Gospel Church as a volunteer. All my students were the elderly. As they are very old they don’t have very good memories, but they did work really hard on English. Their spirit moved me so much, it’s my honor to help them with English. volunteering with Au Pair Hopefully, I can still find a lot volunteering opportunities in Las Vegas. Volunteering is one of the best parts of my Au Pair life!

Travel as an Au Pair

Ophelia’s diary.

One of the great benefits of being an Au Pair is that you can travel as much as you want! I used my weekends, paid vacation travelled to a lot places. Also, I had chances travelled together with my host family. I appreciate all of these so much.

IMG_9025

So far I have been in New York, Houston, Atlantic City, Alaska, Hawaii, Washington DC and Las Vegas. I can’t believe I have already travelled so much just in one Au Pair year. I can write all my stories into a book!

Au Pair magazine

What really matters is not how many places you went but what you got from your journey. I harvest love from host family, friendship from Au Pair friends, also my true love during my Au Pair journey.

Young heart will never stop traveling. It’s great traveling as an Au Pair.

Why I love Las Vegas?

Ophelia’s Diary.

As I told all my friends and family that I found a new host family with Go Au Pair in Las Vegas. Some people are happy for me, some people start worrying about me.

Au Pair Las Vegas

In the eyes of some people, Las Vegas is a “Sin City”, it’s built on sex and gambling. I have been there two times, that’s not the impression Las Vegas gave me at all.

Au Pair Las Vegas strips

It is a peaceful place and  has very pretty buildings. You can see a lot awesome free shows there. Las Vegas Strips is for tourists, the residents don’t live there. The residents usually live a half hour away from the strips.

Au Pair Las Vegas show

I love Las Vegas a lot because I have a wonderful new host family there, and  also Jon. Some of my Au Pair friends are there. Las Vegas won’t make me lose my faith, I will just have a happier Au Pair year with Go Au Pair.

Happy Mother’s Day!

Ophelia’s Diary.

As now I am an Au Pair in America, this is the first Mother’s Day I can’t spend together with my mom in China. I miss my mom so much during this special time and I am sure she misses me a lot too.

Au Pair happy mother's day

Even though I am far away from her still I wish my dear mom have a great Mother’s Day. To make my mom happy, I made her some cute pictures. I keep updating my Au Pair stories to mom every week. She knows I have a great Au Pair life here and she is very happy for me.

I am far from my mom but I am not alone at all. I still have host mom, host grandmothers here. They are all my family. My host child Theo is only less than one and a half years old, but he knows Mother’s Day! He is picking up a flower for his mom!

Au Pair host kid

During this special time, I want to give thanks and hugs to my LAR Polina too. She is more like a mom for us. She cares everything about us, just like caring about her own daughters. Thank you Polina. We love you! Happy Mother’s Day!
