Jaquelinne likes to go out on weekends and she is looking forward to making friends. She mentioned that is good at cooking and listening to other specially children!

What was the best complement you have ever received? That I am brave.

Finally, Jaquelinne said she wanted to be an Au Pair because she is good at taking care of children and coming to the US was a great opportunity to meet new people, to know about the culture and at the same time to improve her English!

2017 Au Pair in Excellence- Valentine, Au Pair from Bucks County, PA

Meet Valentine from France, 2017 Au Pair in Excellence! Read why her host family in Doleystown, Bucks County, PA nominated Valentine for an Au Pair of the Year award and how much of an impact she’s had on her family!Au pair Bucks County

“Valentine has touched our hearts forever and I honestly do not know how we could have gotten through these last few months without her in our lives. We want to nominate her for Au Pair of the Year!!!

I am a single, self-employed grandmother who has had custody of my two granddaughters- now 10 and 3 – for going on two years. I was almost forced to put them in foster care because I just did not think I could do it by myself anymore.

Then Valentine’s letter came-she was a 17 year old girl from France looking to become an Au pair in the US after she graduated and turned 18. We worked together with Go Au Pair, her parents and some of my supporting clients and were able to make it happen very quickly this past September. She has become our godsend.Valntine the best Au Pair of the year
My granddaughters love Valentine like a big sister. She is patient and kind and has taken on the role of big sister so well. She even helps do laundry, keeps me organized by putting together the outfits for a very opinionated 3 year old and is always doing fun things with the girls. Fun things like every Saturday taking a walk up to the local Farmers Market for home baked cookies and then to a friend’s restaurant for his natural juice concoctions.

Valentine helped me potty train the 3 year old and is my 10 year old’s best buddy who helps her with homework every night and is teaching her great study skills and organizational habits. She comes to the teacher conferences so she can be aware of what goes on in school. Sometimes she bakes goodies from France and shares the food from France that her parents send (we love the cheese and her grandmother’s home baked cookies)—her food always “tastes better” than what I prepare for the kids because it is Valentine’s special touch!

Valentine is my” fitbit” challenger—now that I can actually take time to exercise again—we have our little competition going—staying fit is important to both of us—ALL of us are constantly getting “our steps in”.

Valentine even came with us to Florida for her 1st US Thanksgiving and helped surprise my mom with a special 85th birthday party and keep the kids busy so we could make the surprise happen.cooking_together Valntine the best Au Pair of the year
Valentine made Christmas very special. She came up with the brilliant idea to take the 10 year old to her first concert—something I would not do (too old here)—but now my 10 year old granddaughter will be seeing Ariana Grande soon and is SO EXCITED-we wrapped the ticket in a box! Valentine has fit right in with all our little Christmas traditions—like baking a gazillion cookies (eating a lot too)- decorating the house, the tree, wrapping the gifts-and she shared some of her traditions with us, too. We did LOTS of shopping together—her family even sent a care package here for all of us. My family and friends have taken on Valentine like part of my family– BECAUSE SHE IS!Valentine is also a very independent and an awesome role model— she started college courses a week after she arrived, she has gone to NY on her own, down to Philadelphia and soon her entire family will be here to visit us. They plan to see Washington DC together and they will experience their first American barbeque here with all “our” friends and family-2 families and countries bonding together!!

We feel like Valentine has always been in our lives and she will ALWAYS be a part of our family—she is “THE BEST” and is truly deserving of being awarded Au Pair of the Year—she is definitely our Au Pair of the year for our little family. Having an Au Pair has made a BIG, positive difference in our lives!!”

Being an Au Pair buddy is a special honor.

Many new Au Pairs will join the Philadelphia, Bucks County and NJ cluster in January and February 2017, so the cluster Au Pairs are looking forward to being a buddy and sharing their experience with them.

The Au Pair Buddy program started in March 2014 and since that time each new Au Pair from the Philadelphia, Bucks County and NJ cluster had an Au Pair Buddy- a supportive  friend.Go Au Pair Team

I asked Au Pair from Germany Cosima why she wanted to be a buddy and she said “Because I know that it’s important to have a helping hand in the beginning. Everything is new to you and you feel kind of lost at some point. And then it’s great to have a person who’s there for you. I’m happy to be that person! And on top it’s an awesome way to gain new friends!”

Au Pairs have tons of things in common and a lot of experiences that they can share. The buddy shows the area around, introduce the new Au Pair to her friends and have fun together.  The buddy can listen the stories and concerns, understand the feelings and worries and give a piece of advice

Thank you to the new buddies

Special thanks and recognition for an au pair Sijia

Time flies, and unfortunately soon we’ll have to say good-bye to an awesome au-pair from China and just a great person – Sijia Zhu. She has been an au-pair for almost 2 years, and it’s time to leave in 3 months. But before going back to a beautiful and  mysterious China, Sijia wants to share some valuable information with us – her experience and impressions of being an au-pair.

‘ My name is Sijia , I’ve been living here almost 2 years. If you ask me do I like my aupair experience? My answer is absolutely yes, when I just came here got to my host family, I was nervous and didn’t know what to do, but now we get on together like family members.

Totally agree here, Sijia and her host child do look like a family!:) They’re so happy and definitely are having fun!

What places I visited that I like the most?  It’s very hard to choose, I think it’s Philly, the first time I saw the profile about my host family that they live near Philly, I was excited, I know Philly is the city with a long history, I like to hang out with my friends at old city area, enjoy the leisure time at harbour park, walk around with my friends in the UPENN, even Philly is not a big city, I still like this city most.

What is the most valuable lesson I learned from being an aupair?  My host family is a single family, before I came here I thought it would be a very hard time to stay with a single family, but actually, it’s totally different, from these 2 years I realized, to be a patient, cheerful person, always keep the positive attitude it’s very important, that will affect your host family, I believe happiness is contagious.

Sijia and her host kid look soooo cute together:)

What is my favorite aupair meeting? I think it’s in March last year the Flower Show, that’s fabulous, there were all different kinds of flowers from the world, that’s so amazing!!!

Would you recommend being an aupair to others?   I’m very happy to recommend this program to others, it’s a very good way to know the real American culture and daily life to be an aupair, not only the ways you know how to get on well with the kids but also you will learn a lot from your host family, it will broaden your views.

Wonderful smiles!

I’m so lucky to be a member of my host family, I love my host kids, I call them naughty babies, both of them are not only clever but also active, before I came here my English was so bad, they helped a lot to improve my English, they always respect me and never force me to do the things I don’t like, they treat me just like family members, they always welcome my friends to come here, my host dad is a selfless considerate person who always help me and my friends, so appreciate he did everything for me, every time when he goes to the grocery store, he buys the food I like, such as the yogurt, cheery and some other things, that makes me touched a lot. If the weather is ok, my favorite thing is walk around with my host kids after dinner. How time flies, I can’t believe I will leave in 3 months, don’t want to say goodbye, I love my host family, I’m looking forward to see them in China!!!

Buddy Appreciation Month

Girls, it’s time to pull out the BUDDY in each and everyone of us. Alright, alright, Christmas is over but Buddy from Elf is still awesome. Buddy’s excitement and plans are basically self explanatory. This is how we should act when we sign up to be another au pairs buddy, since we’re taking responsibility to be that new au pairs ‘best friend’.

(Also, welcome to the blog Lilla, can’t wait to read more of your articles!)

Okay, so the Au Pair Buddy program started in March 2014 thanks to one of the coolest people I know Cosima Kunz – the Au Pair from Germany, not only is she amazing because she always allows me to have shotgun in her car and makes the funniest faces, but she is a true friend with a heart of gold.

I asked Cosima why she wanted to be a buddy again to two new Australian au pairs (Kiah and Amber) and here’s her answer: “Because I know that it’s important to have a helping hand in the beginning. Everything is new to you and you feel kind of lost at some point. And then it’s great to have a person who’s there for you. I’m happy to be that person! Thank you Cosima. It’s inspiring to see how friendships develop between two or more complete strangers. I remember when I arrived here in the US, everything was still new and frantically, scary. But when I met the rest of the au pairs, they all took me under their wings. Thank each and everyone of you – You girls are AWESOME.
