Au Pair of the Year 2013

Every year the International Au Pair Association (IAPA) selects one outstanding Au Pair for the Au Pair of the Year award from around the world.  The “IAPA Au Pair of the Year” award enhances the public’s awareness of this amazing program.

Recently IAPA announced the winner of Au Pair of the Year 2013. This year Au Pair of the Year became the nineteen year old Au Pair from Germany Femke Meyer.

Femke’s host family said that she  bonded with Maggie and they grew together very quickly. “This was due to Femke’s lovely, gentle and caring nature, her wicked sense of humor and a great willingness to get involved with our family and friends.”

In addition of being a great Au Pair, Femke is a talented musician. You can enjoy her fantastic performance.

Sharon Lizcano Tellez, the Au Pair from Colombia,

Phila Sozombile , the Au Pair from South Africa,

Maria de los Angeles Rodriguez Menjivar, the Au Pair from El Salvador.

Au Pair Phila was recognized as Go Au Pair 2012 Au Pair in Excellence winner. Au Pair Phila with her host childCongratulations to the Au Pair Phila!

Happy Valentine’s Day.

Happy Valentine’s Day, my dear Au Pairs, Host Families and readers!

Au Pairs happy Valentines

My warm and special wishes for a bright and delightful Valentine’s Day. May this Valentine’s Day be filled with love, understanding, and happiness as you journey through life with those you hold dear.

Au Pairs valentine day.

Dear Au Pairs, taking care of children all day is hard work, so spending time together with other Au Pairs in usa, sharing common Au Pair program experience and cultural differences are very important. I wish you many new au pair friends, people you always can say I love you!

If you don’t know how to say it to your  friend aupair on her language, here is how to say I Love You in 100 Languages

I Love You aupairs

In this movie the kids show and explain how to make ribbon Hershey kiss roses. The Au Pair from China  Ying taught her Host Family’s  kids a way to make a present for their mom on Valentine’s Day.

Cultural Differences

The  Au Pair comes from around the world and both, Au Pair and Host family, will see cultural differences. Some customs and traditions may seem strange at the beginning. flags

Things that make us different include culture, language, traditions,  eating habits, etiquette and etc. The Au Pair program is cultural childcare, and cultural differences  enriches  host family children’s horizons by introducing them to a foreign culture. Knowing cultural differences can help Host Families better understand their Au Pair’s behaviors and needs.

Au pairs

For Au Pairs the Au Pair program is an opportunity to learn  language and explore a new culture.   Au Pairs enjoy the experience of a lifetime living with a Host Family, speaking English, being able to study in an American University, experiencing a new culture in the USA and learning about cultural differences.

Host Families and Au Pairs should avoid making  generalizations and assumptions about cultures or stereotypes people. No one expects that Host Families and Au Pairs will like all cultural differences they met, but Host Family should respect the Au Pair’s culture and Au pairs should respect theirs.Au Pair sis

Au Pair Sis , a new online Go Au Pair resource,  can help Au Pairs to learn more about cultural differences. All their questions Au Pairs should message Au Pair Sis on Facebook or email aupairsis@goaupair.com.

Thanks so much to Host Families who submitted nominations, and congratulations to Au Pairs who were nominated in 2013.

Being nominated by your host family for the Au Pair of the Year is an honor in itself. It is great achievement you can be proud of and remember for years to come. Regardless of whether you win the official title or not, you are the best Au Pairs already. You are all winners already in the eyes of your families!

The last blog post in 2012.

Wishing Happy New 2013 Year to the Au Pairs and Host Families from Go Au Pair agency, friends and my blog readers.

Au Pair new year

This is the last post in 2012 and an annual blog summary post. I didn’t plan creating an end summary post, but WordPress.com did it for me. I also add two new pages Programs Rules and Sitemap to my blog for my readers convenience. The new page Sitemap introduces new readers to my blog content and navigates better my regular readers.

Here is my 2012 in blogging.

WordPress.com shared this information with me.  This blog had 25,000 views in 2012. If each view were a film, this blog would power 6 Film Festivals!

In 2012, there were 99 new posts, (now is 100 posts) growing the total archive of this blog to 212 posts. There were 277 pictures uploaded, taking up a total of 208 MB. That’s about 5 pictures per week.

The busiest day of the year was November 23rd with 158 views. The most popular post that day was Harmful Advice – 5 ways to damage relations with your host parents..

These are the posts that got the most views in 2012.
