Friends Become our Chosen Family

Friends are a family you choose for yourself. ~Author Unknown
All current Au Pairs from the Philadelphia, Bucks County and NJ cluster-have Au Pair buddies. Many Au Pairs are looking forward to becoming a buddy, opening their heart and sharing their experience with new Au Pairs. Au Pairs buddies help a new Au Pair to adjust to a new life in the US quickly. Buddies have special connections and often become more than friends. The buddy program  creates a sense of unity, belonging to a cluster family and a circle of friends. frienship
Becoming a buddy to a new Au Pair is a great way to make new friends.  It  also makes an Au Pair buddy feel good because a new friend really appreciates her support and help.

Cosima, the Au Pair from Germany, said “I know that it’s important to have a helping hand in the beginning. Everything is new to you and you feel kind of lost at some point. And then it’s great to have a person who’s there for you. I’m happy to be that person! And on top it’s an awesome way to gain new friends!”thank you buddy
Being a buddy is a great project that we created and hopefully it will be something that we will keep doing with the cluster in the future.

The Au Pairs meeting.

Au Pairs from Philadelphia and Bucks County had a great Au Pairs meeting at Bryn Athyn. We started with exploring Bryn Athyn Cathedral, then we had a tour at Glencairn museum, and enjoyed a farewell picnic.English: The exterior of the Glencairn Museum ...

It was a special time making great memories, meeting new au pairs, making new friends, sharing the experience, eating international food. After the meeting, we had a hard time to say goodbye to many Au Pairs who are leaving. We stayed for a long time and couldn’t leave after the picnic.Au Pair meeting Bucks County

Why do you want to be an Au Pair?
“It is a great program which gives a good possibility to get more experience in working with the kids, learn/improve a foreign language and get in touch with traditions and cultures of a foreign country.”

Irina’s hobbies include doing sports, cooking, learning new languages and stitching. The three best adjectives that would describe her best would be kind, easy and outgoing.

The best compliment Irina has ever received was about her red hair and her freckles. I personally think your red hair is gorgeous! Irina considers herself to be very good at cooking and eating sweets 😉

Everyone at Go Au Pair hopes that you will have an awesome year and we’re looking forward to getting to know you even more!

Are you a good buddy?

Our cluster started the Au Pair buddy program 8 months ago. What does being a buddy mean? When you arrived to the country for the first time, you probably didn’t know much about how and where to start to settle in. But you had a special friend already waiting for you from our group who was there for you and gave you support. For me this friend was Brenda, Au Pair from Mexico. Brenda showed me around the area and gave me great advices regarding our job.
Having a buddy also means that when you are leaving your home behind and come to the USA, you will already have a friend here! 🙂

You will eventually be a buddy yourself too. What can you do to help someone after arriving? You can show the area around, your favorite places, the best restaurants or coffee shops. You can introduce the new aupair to your friends, give advices, go out, have fun. You can prepare your favorite traditional meal and teach some expressions in your language. You can help someone to make the best out of the aupair experience by your support and friendship.

Having a buddy and being a buddy is a great project that we created and hopefully it will be something that we will keep doing in the future. To celebrate the new tradition, our Local Area Representative Polina will organize a buddy appreciation party with bowling and surprises. It will be on the 18th of January at Thunderbird Lanes, 1130 York Road, Willow Grove, PA 19090. If you want to have fun, come! It is a good chance to thank your buddy all the support and help. Thank you Polina for making this happen and organizing the event!

Welcome, Kim.

I would like to welcome our newest au pair member to the cluster, Kim Hunter. She  is 18 and from South Africa. Kim will be living in Center City, Philadelphia and her buddy is Oksana.

“I love kids and traveling and wanted a life changing experience and also just to get out there and learn more about different cultures.”

Kim enjoys swimming, running and learning new things that are science related. She would describe herself as adventurous, perceptive, and happy.

Kim would like to visit New York, Mountains in Colorado, Yosemite, the Bell Tower and the White House in Washington D.C.

She also hopes to form a close and strong bond with her host family and their daughter (Arya) and wants to learn more about their culture.

Well, there’s a lot of crazy (yes, I’m admitting it) South Africans in our cluster Kim, and amazing other au pairs from all over the world with who you’ll have friendships with. We are certainly looking forward to meeting you at our next meeting which will be in January.

Natalia Caro, our new Au Pair from Colombia

Even if I posted the last interview only a few days ago, we have way more to publish. July and August are our busy months. After Ana Maria we got another Au Pair from Colombia. Natalia arrived at her host family in Philadelphia this month. Our au pair Karla kindly offered to be her buddy and help Natalia with the first steps as a new member of our cluster. Thanks Karla!

I’m from Bogota, Colombia and 21 years old. I want to share a little bit of my life with you and hope to meet you girls soon.

Natialia

I came to US as an au pair, because I love to work with kids and I want to learn more about other cultures.

In my free time I like to go swimming, watching movies and baking.

Get to know Ariana, my host child, was one of the best things in the last few weeks.

natalia

Natalia characterizes herself as responsible, grateful and friendly.

Her wish is to be able to speak as many languages as possible.

Natalia 2

Places I want to visit are Los Angeles, CA, Miami,FL and Alaska.

Besides my other hobbies I like to travel, shopping and to study.

During my year as an au pair I hope to learn a lot about kids, American culture and to improving my English.

Given that she’s totally new to this area, I hope she can meet a lot of new people here and have a great year in the US! Welcome to our cluster and see you soon!

Nita, our new Au Pair from South Africa

It’s a busy summer for us! Many of our au pairs are leaving and we get new ones!
Two weeks ago a new au pair joined our cluster. Nita comes from South Africa and replaced Stephanie, who went home after finishing her year. It’s the second time that I am allowed to be a buddy for a new au pair! I’m excited to help Nita getting to know the new environment and meeting new people. My first buddy “job” was for Rikie from South Africa and it’s great to help new au pairs. We already did a lot together – for example we spent a weekend in D.C. with Monica and Annie, sad that she’s going back home.
But now back to Nita, she answered my question, which I provide every new au pair in our cluster.

I love being around my friends, without them my life would be quiet and boring. They absolutely fulfill my life with their laughter and crazyniss.

nita (5)

We are always up to something fun and different. I’m from a farm, so love being outside and love being on adventures as well. Where it’s green I want to be.

nita (3)

But just like I love the farm life I love shopping and walking in the malls, go for a movie or just a cup of tee. The people never believe me when I tell them im from a farm. They say im too girly. But a girl needs do doll up right??

nita

I love children, so I see beeing an au pair as a great oppurtunity to work with children.

In my free time I love being with my friends, do horseback riding and riding my bike with friends – doing all kind of trips and races.

She descirbes herself as loving , caring and funny.

If she had one wish, it would be to bring back her neffew – she lost him two months ago.

Places she would love to visit are New York City, Vegas, Ireland, Texas. And there are way more she would like to see.

nita (2)

I believe everything happens for a reason, because God has your life all planned out, but there is stuff you can prevent from happening.

I’m good at being myself and doing sports.

I’ve never been to America – this will be a new thing for me. Getting thrown in the deep side, but I am very excited indeed!

I already had the chance to meet Nita – and what should I say. She’s just herself, a sprightly, happy young woman.
Nita, you will have a great year with us! We’re happy to welcome you again in our cluster.

And have fun at your first trip to NYC with the other girls – after the weekend you can tick NYC off your list of places you want to see! 😉
