I am grateful for the amazing host family I have.

Arminda, Au Pair from El Salvador, who joined Go Au Pair cluster in Philadelphia only a few months ago said that her host family -the Prybella family – changed her life and makes her happy.  Thank you for sharing with us about your amazing family, Mindy.Be our Au Pair

I am grateful for the amazing family that I have here even we do not have the same blood, they treat me as a real member of their family with love and respect all the time. We spend a lot time together and we enjoy discovering new things from each other.Au Pair from Philly 4

Let me tell you that before I came to the US they asked what I wanted to study and they helped me to find the course that I was looking for in the Montgomery College (English Grammar course) so after two weeks of my arrival I was taking the course there, that is awesome even though they were busy with three boys and their jobs they still had time for me before I came.Au Pair and host family

I would like to mention that my host dad works at home in his office, at noon we have lunch together, he takes a couple of breaks to play with us in the playing room- so they boys and I have fun! I can not forget to say that Prybella’s family makes me feel comfortable with them and with myself, I am not afraid to say what I like and what I do not like in any particular conversation. Well, during the week after dinner on Wednesdays and Fridays we watch movies or we play board game (The Settlers of Catan it is our favorite game) eating popcorn or ice cream and drinking soda and the boys asleep.Au Pair from Philly 1

My family is not only nice with me but also with my best friend Anita from Colombia, she is an au pair too and she lives close to my house in Glenside. Anita likes to spend weekends in my home with my family They say she is always welcome to stay with us and most of the time after dinner we play cards or board games with my host parents; definitely we have a good time when we are together.Au Pair from Philly 5

If could wish something I would like the others au pairs have a family like mine that support, that listen and the most important thing is that they see me as a member of their family!Au Pair from Philly 2

I remember at the beginning of July we were going to travel to Manassas and in the road they would drop me at my uncle’s house who lives in Woodbridge but at the end they had many things running at the same time and they could not do it, so they cancelled the trip and as a surprise they bought me the tickets! I was so happy and blessed for having a family like them.Au Pair from Philly 3

Mindy said,”They made me feel at home since the first day I came to their house”

Thanks to the Prybella family who made Mindy a part of their family!

The Au Pair Experience in the USA

What are the best countries to search for an Au Pair?

Go Au Pair currently has over 300 Au Pairs available from over 60 different countries. Because of the variety, some host families want to narrow down the choice of countries.

It is obvious that nobody can predict an Au Pair’s personality based upon his/her country of origin.  Many host families are open minded about where the Au Pair is from and mostly concentrate on the qualification of the candidates.

It can be helpful to speak to Go Au Pair’s Placement Coordinator, when trying to figure out the country from which candidates might be the best fit for the family’s childcare needs. Go Au Pair agency keeps statistics of the percentage of au pairs from each country who drive, who are under two qualified, who are college graduates and who obtain visas.

Some countries are more popular than others among the host families. Some families would like their Au Pair to speak particular language.  Today more and more families hire an Au Pair from China.

In Go Au Pair Philadelphia and NJ cluster, there are Au Pairs from many countries throughout the world-  from Brazil, China, Colombia, Mexico, Panama, Ukraine, South Africa, El Salvador, and Ecuador.

Today, the largest group of au pairs are available from Eastern Europe and Asia. Thailand is a good example -many college educated young women desire to spend a year in America before they settle into their careers.

Go Au Pair Au Pair saved a baby from a distracted truck driver.

On May 13th, Sharon Lizcano Tellez, an Au Pair from Colombia, performed a truly heroic act. She saved the life of an 8-month-old she has been caring for, from a distracted truck driver, while crossing a street at a cross walk. Realizing that the accident was unavoidable, Sharon protected the baby by shifting her body and absorbing the impact of the crash to her left side, away from the child.

I have been working with the Au Pair program in Philadelphia for the past 3 years and have never heard of such a courageous story. As a Local Area Representative for Go Au Pair in Philadelphia, upon meeting Sharon for the first time, I immediately noticed that she is an outstanding Au Pair, mature and responsible with a warm and caring personality. I was impressed when she showed up  at our meeting on the second day after she arrived.

Sharon is a 26 year old Au Pair from Colombia.  She has a lot of experience with kids and worked as an Au Pair in Holland before coming to the USA. Sharon is a very giving person. She loves children from her heart and cares for them as if they were her own.

Her friend, a 20 year old Au Pair Maria from El Salvador, was walking with the second baby in a stroller. Maria was  hit by a distracted driver of a van too, and  was slightly injured. Fortunately the baby escaped unharmed. You can see Maria on the video, volunteering for FRUA Holiday party.

We are proud of our Au Pairs who are experienced, reliable, and responsive, provide the highest level of childcare and become a part of the family and the local community as well.
