In the beginning there was the plan.

Hello everyone!

This is the start of a new project with my au pair agency Go Au Pair and my Local Area Representative of the Philadelphia, Bucks County, and NJ cluster, Polina. In particular we want to introduce newly arrived au pairs/au pairs who will arrive soon to our readers and I will blog about my life as an au pair.

Love Go Au Pair

So let’s start with me: my name is Cosima, I’m 19 years old and I’m a German au pair, living in Bucks County, PA. As I arrived here two months ago, I already know how it is to be an au pair.

Since my arrival I had the chance to meet some of the other au pairs from my cluster and to explore a lot of places around Philadelphia/New Jersey and even New York City together with them. On top of that I’m lucky to be the first buddy in our cluster for Rikie, my au pair friend from South Africa.

thank you buddy

After I graduated from school last June I worked in a clothing store until I came to the US. Given that my last school was a boarding school, I was in touch with younger kids every day. Besides the work with younger kids at my school, I used to babysit for my neighbor and to work with kids at a summer camp.

My decision to come to the US and work here as an au pair was a long process, but now I know that it was worth it. I wanted to explore a different culture, meet new people, visit new places and – of course – to work with kids. Now I have the chance to do exactly those things!

Au Pairs from Bucks County Stand Out.

Recently, two Host Families from Bucks County nominated their outstanding Au Pairs for the IAPA Au Pair of the Year Award in 2014. Au Pairs come from around the world to provide live-in childcare for Host Families in the United States. Many of these young men and women go above-and-beyond in their roles, and make a significant difference in the lives of the children for whom they care.Au Pairs class.

Adriana Zhang, an Au Pair from China, is  a 2014 Au Pair in Excellence Nominee. The Au Pair Adriana lives in Newtown, Bucks County, and she is taking care of four children under the age of six.Au pair Newtown Bucks County

“Adriana has been a tremendous asset to our family. She is hard working and has a wonderful attitude and work ethic. My life has been made more manageable because of her help with the daily routines of my children. …Adriana goes beyond, like fixing my girls in cute hairstyles and teaching them Chinese songs and dance,” said Adriana’s host mom.Chinece Au Pairs
“We’ve been very impressed with how patient and calm Adriana is with our children. We’re so thankful that she truly cares and loves them. It is also apparent that our children adore her. When she is away on weekends or on vacation, her absence is often missed! We are grateful to have Adriana and feel very blessed that she has joined our household. She deserves an Au Pair in Excellence award.” This host family has had 3 Au Pairs with Go Au Pair agency already and is looking forward to hosting a new Au Pair soon.Au Pairs photo contest 3

Adriana is a very active Au Pair. She didn’t miss any Au Pair meetings. Adriana teaches an ESL class in her church. She likes traveling and spending time with her friends. Adriana is the first to volunteer and always offers to help.IMG_20131117_124406

Go Au Pair believes that Adriana and other Au Pairs who are truly excellent and their hard work deserves to be recognized.

Congratulations, Adriana! Being nominated as an Au Pair in Excellence is a big honor.

Read through the eyes of the Chinese Au Pair.

The Au Pair from Go Au Pair agency, Plum  has been leaving in Newtown, Bucks County,  PA for 10 months and she is taking care of three kids ages 21 months, and 3 and 5 years old.Au Pair from China

Chinese people are very polite. In China, we all answer carefully the questions because we are not willing to break one’s heart or disappointed him.  Indirect speaking attitude is our purpose.

In China, we need to help our parents as they raised us and helped us before. We don’t have a good welfare system for older people.  Even now, when it is a little better, parents think that their kids are only hope for the rest of their life.china

China is very popular for looking for a boyfriends and girlfriend on the TV show.

The important requirements for Chinese girl, who seek her ideal man, mostly are have a stable income, a house, a car, and a good look! Some girls were going extremely said that they would rather crying in the BMW car than smiling on the bicycle.China Show

Many Chinese girls are very traditional. Their marriage just depends on what their parents desire. Their parents recommended them some guys that they like, then the girl need to choose one even even she does not like him very much. Otherwise parents will get very angry with their daughter.

Happy Thanksgiving Host Families, Au Pairs and everyone!

I love Thanksgiving.  Thanksgiving is an emotional holiday.  People travel thousands of miles to be with their family. It is time to say thank you for good things that we are grateful for.

Most of All

Thanksgiving Day brings to mind
the blessings in our lives
that usually go unnoticed:
a home that surrounds us
with comfort and protection;
delicious food, for pleasure
in both eating and sharing;
clothes to snuggle up in,
books and good entertainment
to expand our minds;
and freedom to worship our God.
Most of all we are thankful
for our family and friends,
those treasured people
who make our lives extra special.
You are part of that cherished group.
On Thanksgiving, (and every day)
we appreciate you.
