Memorial Day events in Bucks County, PA

Many Au Pairs will be celebrating the Memorial Day Holiday weekend with their host families and friends for their first time.  Memorial Day weekend is the official kickoff of summer. Families are usually enjoying their time outside of their homes -picnics, BBQ, pool parties with traditional hamburgers and hot dogs on the grill.

Memorial-Day

The Memorial Day weekend is an important holiday for many Americans. It is a day of remembrance for those who have died in service of the United States of America. Au Pairs can find many special events and learn a lot about American history. Many events are free.

Memorial Day is a great day for celebration and cultural exchange. I recommend the Au Pairs attending the local parades. It is a lot of fun watching the groups that representing the veterans, military, non-profit groups, service clubs, Boy and Girl Scouts, marching bands, decorated floats, dancers, athletes, antique vehicles, horse drawn carriages and many more.

A lot of people will be with American flags and dressed in red, white and blue and the US Flags will be displayed everywhere. There many local Memorial Day parades in Newtown, Doylestown, Washington Crossing, Yardley-Makefield, Langhorne, Warminster that are very unique. Au Pairs Bucks County volunteers

German au pair Lena Halberstadt was named Au Pair of the Year 2015 by (IAPA) today.  Lena is an Au Pair from AuPairCare and her host family, the Rasmussen family, from Northville, MI, said that Lena,”has been a positive ray of sunshine. From 59 nomination essays, IAPA has selected three 2015 Au Pair of the Year finalists. One of the three finalists is Au Pair from Go Au Pair agency, Terri Abbott.  Terry is 27-year-old and she is from South Africa.Best S. African Au Pair 2015 Terri

Mission of the Au Pair Program

According to Go Au Pair agency,”The Au Pair Program is an amazing opportunity to introduce a cultural childcare experience to your family “Heart Au Pairs

Many host families welcome the life-enriching experiences that are tied to cultural exchange. The program’s mission is to build friendships, learn other cultures and better understand other people. The Host Family Mission is to

  • Positively represent the United States
  • Include the Au Pair as a member of the family
  • Assist and encourage their Au Pair to experience American life
  • Understand that they are the Au Pair’s family while she is in the US
  • Guide the Au Pair through completing her Au Pair program

au pair program

I like a very positive and encouraging statement that Summer Blackhurst, the author of Go Au Pair blog, wrote in her post, “The Au Pair program is a life changing experience and, while it doesn’t come without its share of challenges, the attachments, cultural benefits, and even losses are all worth it. Being an Au Pair or having an Au Pair changes people for the better.”

I think that Summer posted the best explanation of the Au Pair program mission, ” a life changing experience that changes people for the better.”

Lilla, our Au Pair from Hungary

Our new Au Pair Lilla belongs to our cluster for about 8 weeks already. She’s 23 years old and lives with her host family in Ardmore – after working with another host family in Florida. Our Au Pair Brenda kindly offered to be her buddy – thanks Brenda.

Lilla decided to be an Au Pair, because it’s a perfect way to see America, work with kids and experience a cultural exchange.

I am a very positive and happy person, I like to travel and experience new things such as a new culture, languages, food, music and people from all over the world.

Lilla (2)

Lilla has already some experience living abroad – she spent 2 years on her own in London, UK.

I like to spend my free time active with sport activities, yoga or dancing, exploring new areas and things, meeting new people.

Caring, happy and ambitious – that’s how she describes herself.

Lilla (3)

I would like to spend my aupair year active and use every opportunity well, see and do as much as possible.

Lilla

I would love to see New York and Washington while I’m here.

Welcome again to our cluster, Lilla! I’m sure you’ll have a great time here!

Monica Hinestroza, an Au Pair from Colombia, shared her volunteer experience, “It’s unbelievable how you give a little bit of your time to others, and they can give you so much energy and so much happiness. This was my first time as a volunteer, and I can say, without a doubt that I would love to do it again…”

Harvest America -Christian Music Concert

Ophelia’s Diary.

Au Pair at the concert

I have a lot of good Au Pair friends in Philadelphia. In the meantime, I am trying to make more friends besides Au Pairs. Indeed, I already made some nice friends in the church. And my church friends invited me to the Christian music concert, I was so excited. This made my Au Pair life even more colorful!Au Pair in the concert

This was my first time to attend such a big and awesome music festival. Over 27,000 people attended this Harvest America Crusade at Wells Fargo’s center in Philadelphia. I always love worship songs a lot. Finally, I got this chance to the music concert.

As in China, the public religion activities are forbidden.  If I am not an Au Pair in here, I am afraid I can never get a chance like this to feel the religion culture here.

AuPair at the concert

In China, only small home church is acceptable by the government.  So I only attended an International church for one time in my home country. We have no Chinese church at all. But now, I can go to Chinese church often on Sunday. Truly, I felt the cultural difference. And this is the meaning of Cultural Exchange.Au Pairs at the concertRead more stories from Ophelia’s Diary.

The Au Pair offers an opportunity to learn a new language, culture and make friends all over the world.  Here are even  more benefits that the Au Pair program gives to the kids.

The Au Pairs program teaches kids to respect cultural diversity. Many Au Pairs follow a different set of norms and behaviors.  Kids learn to respect their differences,  welcome them and be flexible.

The Au Pairs program teaches kids to accept the differences. Au Pairs help them to learn about  different  customs and traditions and appreciate those differences.

frendship

The Au Pair program teaches kids the tolerance and mutual understanding. Kids will be more likely to embrace differences and see the value in others.

The Au Pairs program teaches the kids many things that help their personal growth and becoming a responsible citizen of the world.

An Au Pair – bilingual childcare provider

Au Pairs provide child care and at the same time can introduce a new language to the children.

Besides being a flexible and most importantly, an affordable option for child care, Au Pairs offer what other forms of child care can’t: cultural exchange. Children can learn a new language for free with native speakers, while broadening their perspectives and world knowledge; which in today’s world is considered to be priceless.

Hiring an Au Pair who speaks the language of the family’s choice is a perfect option. An Au Pair helps children learn a second language through study & play.

Au Pair Child Care is a popular option  used by parents to help their children learn a second language. Since Au Pairs are constantly with children, they give them the opportunity to practice their second language. An Au Pair not only motivates children to learn the language, but she teaches them the language with native pronunciation and grammar.

A cognitive neuroscientist, Ellen Bialystok has spent almost 40 years learning about how bilingualism sharpens the mind says that “There are two major reasons people should pass their heritage language onto children. First, it connects children to their ancestors. The second is my research: Bilingualism is good for you. It makes brains stronger. It is brain exercise.”

Having your child learn a second language gives a child a distinct educational advantage that will last a lifetime .

Watch the movie Benefits of Learning a Foreign Language.

You may create a bilingual learning environment for your children with an Au Pair childcare too.
