Setting Your Au Pair’s Work Schedule.

Every family has unique needs and their Au Pair‘s schedule will have to reflect them. One of the great advantages of hiring an Au Pair is flexibility.

Live-in Au Pairs are a flexible option for busy parents. Host parents set Au Pair work hours according to the family’s schedule and needs each week, including nights and weekends. It’s much easier to handle last-minute child care needs with An Au Pair. The Au Pair’s schedule can be different each week.

However, there are some restrictions. According to US Department of State AU Pair Program Regulations, Au Pair participants are obligated to provide child care services to not more than 10 hours per day or more than 45 hours per week.
The Au Pair program is flexible live-in childcare option. Au Pair can be off any day that parents scheduled  but she is still supposed to have 11⁄2 days off weekly plus a full weekend off each  month. In addition, an Au Pair must have two weeks’ paid vacation and 4 Holidays.  Both the Host Family and Au Pair must agree on the vacation time.
Every week an Au Pair is supposed to have her writing schedule. Working hours are considered any time that the Au Pair can not leave the home.  For example, if the children are taking a nap , the Au Pair would not be able to leave the home.
Host Families are asked to provide as much notice as possible so Au Pairs can arrange their free time and classes accordingly. No more than 45 hours are allowed. The host family should consider their unique situation and where they might need extra help from family or additional childcare providers.
