Host families and Au Pairs BBQ party in Bucks County.

Have you had the opportunity to  share the meal with the people around the world recently?  Fortunately, I have this opportunity often as do many host families who are the Au Pair program participants.

Recently,  Au Pairs and Host families got together at the Core Creek Park in Bucks County for BBQ, fun and fundraising.support Autism

There were  Chinese Au PairsColombian Au PairsSalvadorian Au PairsEcuadorian Au PairsSouth African Au PairsMexican Au Pairs, German Au Pairs, Ukrainian Au Pairs  at the BBQ.  They were serving as their country’s citizen ambassador at our meeting. Many open-minded American families participated as well.Au Pair friends

Many different people gathered together, all connected by the  Au Pair Program.  Sharing the food and spending time together gives everyone the opportunity to learn something new and have fun for the Au Pairs and Host families. People around the table showed  tolerance and respect to each culture and heritage and served as a positive example to the people around the world.Au Pair Bucks County event

The Au Pair Program in the US and Abroad

The Au Pair program’s requirement varies around the world.

Go Au Pair agency currently sends Au Pairs to the following countries:  AustraliaAustriaChinaFranceGermanyNetherlandsNorwayNew ZealandSouth Africa, and Turkey

For example, German Au Pairs, who are between 18 and 24 years old, single and childless can provide 30 hours of childcare assistance and light housework for their host families each week. Childcare duties may include changing diapers, feeding, bathing, dressing, playing, reading, crafts, transporting between school and home or other outside activities, supervising play, and assisting with their bedtime routine.

In addition to childcare, German Au Pairs help with housekeeping. Their household duties may include vacuuming, doing the laundry, preparing simple meals, grocery shopping, ironing, setting the dinner table, cleaning the children’s room and looking after pets.

Host Families in Germany provide their Au Pair with a private room and full board, €260 pocket money per month, 4 weeks vacation per year and health insurance. Au pairs are responsible to pay for their Visa, Airfare to and from Germany, classes and transportation to class

This program is close to Educare Au Pair program in the US. According J-1 Visa exchange visitor program, “EduCare participants are not to work more than 10 hours a day/30 hours a week. They must complete a minimum of 12 semester hours of academic credit, or its equivalent, during their program. Host families provide the first $1,000 to the Au Pair toward the cost of the educational component.” The EduCare weekly stipend is $146.81.

Friendship has wings

As you see that German Au Pairs are supposed to do some housekeeping that is not a requirement for Au Pairs in the USA. Also they earn less money and are supposed to pay for their Visa, their tickets to and from Germany, and  their classes.

The positive impact of Au Pairs volunteering for causes in the US.

On Sunday, 11.17.2013, twenty Au Pairs from Go Au Pair are going to volunteer at the Philadelphia Marathon and help the American Cancer Society. It is our first time of participating in such a Marathon. I didn’t expect that almost all Au Pairs in the area would like to join the team, but they did. There will be a huge cultural diversity Brazilian Au PairsChinese Au PairsColombian Au PairsSalvadorian Au Pairs,  Ecuadorian Au Pairs, German  Au Pairs, Panamanian Au PairsSouth African Au PairsMexican Au Pairs, French Au Pairs, Spain Au Pairs, and Cameroonian Au Pairs.Go Au Pair 11

I feel passionate about the positive impact of volunteering at the marathon. Volunteering  will bring a lot of benefits to the community and make a difference.

In addition, it will be useful to the young adults from around the world who choose to volunteer in the US.  It can be a first-hand experience for the Au Pairs and also, a life changing event. The Au Pairs will return back home, share with others and spread their experience all over the globe.

Volunteer AuPair Philadelphia

Volunteering for a cause is not common in some countries, and Au Pairs may feel like ambassadors. Many Au Pairs are very enthusiastic and motivated to change the word for the better. To start changing the world, we may need only to directly impact the lives of a few people. Smal steps… but here is a start – volunteering at the Philadelphia Marathon! See you there!
