My host family means to me much more than they can imagine, this has been the craziest, hardest, most incredible, amazing and with no doubts the happiest experience of my life, I know I’m young and this is just the beginning of my life and I’ll live many more amazing experiences, but I’ll never ever forget all the moments I’m living here, I’ll always be grateful because I’m a better human because of what I’m living here and because of these three little human being! And don’t get me wrong I love the other kids as well, Cole (train), Luke ( Cookie man), Jaxon ( action Jaxon!) Chase (he’s on the case!) and even Joey (the pain in the ass, handsome though!)

Thank you to my host parents for trusting me with their precious kids, it’s an honor to know that you trust me with the people you love the most in this world and thanks for letting me be part of this crazy family of 8 KIDS!

I know I have a second family for life and it’s good to know that I’ll be welcome to visit you guys, I’m glad I took the decision to stay one more year with this family!
I just wanted to say that I love these kids with all my heart!

My first American birthday.

Ophelia’s Diary.

Please enjoy this post about a very special birthday that the Au Pair from Go Au Pair agency Ophelia had in America. Thank you very much for sharing with us, Ophelia. And Happy Birthday again!  We love you!

Hi, I am Ophelia, an au pair from China and now I live in Philadelphia. I just been 21 last Wednesday, I have a fantastic birthday experience in the US with my host family and au pair friends!

Au Pairs meeting at Bryn Athym 022

I have been here for almost two months, I live a happy life in here with my host family. My host mom Sophie likes cooking, I learnt a lot from her, can you image that she even baked a birthday cake for me! It’s the best cake I once got on my birthday! Also, I got an Amazon gift card and an eCard from grandma Sandy, she is in Alaska now, but she still remember my birthday, how sweet she is!

As my birthday was on Wednesday, most of my friends need to work, so we couldn’t celebrate it that day. But all my Au pair friends remembered my birthday, they posted lots of blessing words on my Facebook, this made me moved a lot! Finally on Saturday night, we got a chance to have a small au pair party for my birthday. We celebrated it at Monica’s home, Monica’s host parents are so nice, they even gave us some fund to suppose our party!

 Au Pair's birthday

It’s really a mini party, just Monica, Annie, Fernanda and I we four joined it, but we still have fun together. We planned to celebrate for another two au pairs together, as their birthdays are close, but unfortunately, they have to work at Saturday night. Now let me show you how fun was this mini party!

Au Pairs Philadelphia

This was our first time to meet Fernanda, she is a very nice and kind girl, and I got a lovely gift from her. And Monica cooked a flan for our party. That flan looks just like a perfect birthday cake, I love it a lot.  Also, I baked some classic bran muffins for our party, there are more recipes on Au Pair Sis Pinterest

Classic Bran Muffins

We got a lot of delicious food in here. When we were together, we talked a lot about our life in the US and in our hometown. My friends were interested in Chinese culture, so I tried to explain to my friends about how we write in Chinese.

As an au pair, I did feel a lot about the cultural difference, and I learned a lot, I enjoy it!

My host parents are so sweet, they knew I like cooking a lot, so they give me a wonderful cooking class as a birthday gift!  Guess what kind of birthday gift I got from my host parents?  It’s “classic Italian desserts cooking class”!

How wonderful the cooking class will be? Let me share it with you next time!

Celebration of Gratitude on Thanksgiving.

Thanksgiving  is the ideal opportunity to recognize and demonstrate the extent of our gratefulness to the Host Families,  Au Pairs, family and friends who make our days what they are. The power words “thank you” can uplift the people around.

I am proud to be a Local Area Representative for Go Au Pair I am thankful for this opportunity. I am thankful for the host families who open their home and hearts to an unforgettable cultural experience. I am also thankful  for great relationship and friendship with  Au Pairs and sharing their journey with me. Thank you to my family and friends for always being there for me, for their love and encouragement.

I wish you a wonderful Thanksgiving!!!

Happy Thanksgiving host familiesAu Pairs, my family, my friends and everyone! Thank you again!

My new friend Au Pair Sis.

How many friends do you have on Facebook? 50, 100 or 1000? Many of them you might have never even met. How many Au Pair friends do you have there ?

And how many sisters do you have?  I have  the only brother, but always dreamed about having a sister. The  Sis with whom I can share my thoughts and have a good time together.

Now, thank to Go Au Pair, I have Aupairsis, my new friend on Facebook. The Sis I can learn from,  ask the question, share my photos and have fun together.

My new Sis will help me and give advice if I need one. I can also participate in many interesting activities and have fun with other Au Pairs- my Sis’ friends.  She will coordinate book clubs and fitness challenges, help with craft and game ideas. I love cooking and my new Sis will  post recipes from around the words. Aupairsis can answer all my questions and I can even ask  her privately.

How many real good friends do you have? It is usually easy to count; in general a person has between 18 and 30 friends.

Do you know how many friends has an average user on Facebook? An average user has about 200 or more friends. It is almost impossible to have so many friends in real life, right?

But it is possible to make a new friend, the Au Pair Sister on Facebook. I did! It was very easy, the Aupairsis accepted my request right away and now we are friends on Facebook .

You can have the Sis too 🙂 She is a big help. You cam learn a lot from her and have fun together with her and her hundreds friends.

Family vacation with an Au Pair.

Au Pairs get two weeks of paid vacation during their Au Pair program year in America. Au Pairs and host families can go on vacation together or separately- it depends on the relationships and agreements they made.

Many Au Pairs want to go together with their host families on vacation. They are looking forward to traveling with their host parents and children and want to be part of the family.

There are several vacation scenarios. The host families can invite their Au Pairs as a guest or as a caregiver and pay all expenses.

Vacations are one of those times when it is important to be clear about who is working and who is vacationing, and when.  Often the host family invites their Au Pair as a guest to show their appreciation for her hard work and to have fun doing things together as a family, bonding and creating memories.

Another scenario is asking the Au Pair  to work during family vacation time- that is when family takes the Au Pair, but she is working and not using her vacation time.  She works up to 45 hours a week, has her own room and she gets paid.

If the host family wants the Au Pair to work on family vacation, it is better to discuss arrangements and all of the family expectations to the Au Pair before the vacation.  The family needs to discuss how much the Au Pair will be expected to work, and when the family expects to need her to be on duty. The host family also needs to find ways to give the Au Pair some time for herself.

If the family brings their Au Pair along, the family will have a built-in babysitter,  so host parents can have extra pair of helping  and trusted hands when they need them most and also can have some special time alone together.

Here are some reasons Why You May Want to Bring a Babysitter on Vacation with You

Family vacation with an Au Pair may be one of the best and most memorable experiences you ever have!
