Follow my dreams

Please read the beginning of my Au Pair adventure.

I finished all my applications and paperwork and became an Au Pair candidate with Go Au Pair. Then it was probably the hardest time because I don’t like to wait! Thanks God, I didn’t wait for that long and after 10 days host families started to contact me and i started to get the interviews on Skype. I worried a lot, read a lot of blogs, watched the videos of another Au Pairs stories.Au Pair from Ukraine 6

I’m very confident person, but by that time I could not help my emotions. I had few interviews with very nice families, it was so funny because some families spoke Russian language, so it was easier for both sides to communicate.

Go Au Pair has a special Mutual Match process which is the best because I can choose my future host family. After 3 weeks I got a few offers and I should choose my future host family.  It was super hard because all of them were very nice and friendly. Then I decided to listen my heart and I  it was the best decision.  I’m so happy and in love with my host family now!Au Pair from Ukraine 7

After few weeks I had to go to American embassy and get my visa.  It’s another hilarious story…lol.  I got J1 Au Pair visa! and in 15 days I came to the USA as an Au Pair with Go Au Pair !!! I’m here so happy and in love with my host family and this beautiful country.

Au Pair from Ukraine 3Oh yeah,Why that French croissants kind of changed my life :1-because if I wasn’t in that place and didn’t find out about this program from Andreev Andrei I wouldn’t be here!Thank you so much for that!Au Pair from Ukraine 1

Au Pair Program Cost

The Au Pair program is a great childcare option for families seeking full-time, live-in childcare. It is not just for the rich and actually costs much less than a nanny. The Au Pair program cost also beats traditional day care because there are no additional fees for siblings. The Au Pair program cost in the US is $8 per hour on average for up to 45 hours per week of child care.

There are many questions about  the Au Pair program cost. The Au Pair stipend  for a standard program set by the Federal Government and is $195.75 per week and also the first $500 toward the costs of classes. The Au Pair program fees vary in the US and depend on the agency. With Go Au Pairs the cost of the standard Au Pair program is $343.21 per week or only $7.63 per hour. This includes everything :  $7195-the agency fees,  $195.75 the Au Pair weekly stipend and $500 educational component. ($195.75 is the minimum amount required by the Department of State. Families and Au Pairs are free to agree upon any amount higher than this minimum.)

Being a Local Area Representative with Go Au Pair for a long time I have met many host families that were confused by the cost.  They thought that in addition to $343.21, they also need to pay $ 195.75 stipend to their Au Pair and/or $500 educational component.  With Go Au Pair the weekly average cost per family is  $343.21 or $7.63 per hour.

Please watch the video with the objective of explaining the complicated fee structure associated with the Au Pair industry. In approximately 3 minutes, host families will be able to see a complete overview of Go Au Pair program costs.

Unlike other agencies, with Go Au Pair, you can view available Au Pairs for free, so you can make an informed decision about your childcare options without paying fees.

Au Pair Wenjie

Many of my current host families found Go Au Pair because they were looking for a better child care option.   Au Pairs have hundreds, even thousands, of hours of experience as babysitters, tutors, kindergarten assistants, camp counselors and sports instructors. With Go Au Pair child care you don’t have to choose between quality and affordability.

Harmful Advice – 5 ways to damage relations with your host parents.

Have you ever read the Russian book by Gregory Oster Harmful Advice for Naughty Children and Their Parents?  The book “teaches” kids to do bad things in quite humorous fashion.

There are kids who are doing the opposite to what their parents ask them to do. There are also many adults with such a spirit of contradiction.

Here are some  harmful advice for an Au Pair. All these tips are real scenarios that I took from my experience working as  a Local Area Representative for Go Au Pair.  Following these is an easy way to receive a rematch with your host family.

Harmful Advice for an Au Pairs.

Harmful tip number 1
Tell your host parents that they do not know how to bring up their kids and that they are doing everything wrong.  Only YOU know how to do that because you have a Master degree in early childhood education. Tell them that their kids are spoiled. Be honest and do not think before you speak, criticize them endlessly.

Harmful tip number 2
Don’t  take responsibility for your actions. Never admit that you made a mistake and do not try to correct the situation.  It is not your fault. Let yourself shine! Wherever you are, whatever you do, YOU are the best!  Give your host parents a chance once again to be sure. Always show that you’re smarter and more knowledgeable than others.

Harmful tip number 3
Forget about gratitude. Do not say “thank you” and ask “How are you?” to your host family. It’s just a waste of your time. The host family must to be nice and polite to YOU. Be strict, when your host parents present you a bar of chocolate, let them know that this one is not your favorite and advice them ask you what kind of chocolate you prefer next time. Mention that your Au Pair friend host parents are the best hosts since they bought her a new IPAD as a present.

Harmful tip number 4
Don’t
follow house rules and your host parents instructions. Let your parents know that their rules are strange and don’t have any sense. Tell them that YOU do not agree with some of them and your family has never followed such as stupid rules. When you are late home at night, tell them that the curfew is nonsense, you are not a kid anymore. When they caught you constantly texting at work, explain that you are bored at work and need to be in touch with your friends.

Harmful tip number 5
Avoid communication with your host parents. Never admit if you do not understand a word or instructions. Don’t ask questions because they may find that language is a problem for you. Why should you  listen their concerns and advice? Host parents must share their  plans with YOU, but don’t discuss your plans and issues since they don’t care anyway.  Remember, it is impossible to reach a compromise with your hosts -never even try it.

I’m sure that after reading my bad advice you may have more to add.

Au Pairs Meeting at The Devon Horse Show.

Last Au Pairs meeting was at The Devon Horse Show and Country Fair, which started in 1894.

I am sorry I did not hear about it until one host mom, Virginia M, told me of  this show and  donated the tickets. I believe that our meeting at the Devon Horse Show and Country Fair was one of the most exciting meetings we ever had. I hope we will come back in the future because we all enjoyed the show very much. Thank you, Virginia

There were a lot of  attractions for kids, food courts, souvenir shops, live music and much more at the Country Fair.  We walked around, shopped, ate, listened to music and then watched  the Horse Show. It was Junior Jumper Gamblers’ Choice and demonstration by young performer, Lizzy Traband.

Born without a left forearm, 13-year-old Lizzy Traband is a great performer. Lizzy has performed at the World Equestrian Games as well as at a number of expositions.

We had a great time at The Devon Horse Show. We were very glad to see each other, sharing our news and plans for the future, telling stories, laughing, enjoying every moment and making one photo after another.
It was a special atmosphere at the show- excitement, inspiration and joy- something in the air. 🙂 I observed that almost everyone had wine and felt excited and euphoric. But even without wine, we were energized by the opportunity of being together and our friendship.

One of the purposes of the Au Pair Program is cultural exchange. Au Pairs made a lot of friends during their Au Pair time in the country. Several Aupairs from Go Au Pair cluster in the Philadelphia and NJ area are going to leave very soon. Judy is moving to CA to spend her next Au Pair year there, Irina and Ying are finishing their US Au Pair program and going home to Germany and China.

Last hugs, last wishes and last words of inspirations. It was hard to say good-bye, ……….but we will be in touch and friends forever.

How to find the best Au Pair.

The Host Mom from Go Au Pair agency, who recently considered hosting an Au Pair, said to me: “I found the best Au Pair, she is an excellent match for us. We really love our Au Pair, she couldn’t be better.  She is loving , enthusiastic, motivated and provides excellent childcare for my children and I am very happy with my choice”

But how to find the best Au Pair for the family?
I asked the host mom, who is lucky to have many great Au Pairs year after year said, “The key is a good match”.

First, my host mom suggested that Host Families should make a list of important qualities, values, and personality traits that would fit in with their family.

Second, my host mom suggested that during the interviewing process, to ask specific questions and give her scenarios to see how the Au Pair responds. A good idea is sending her Family Handbook and asking questions prior to matching.

In addition, she said that  good communication skills, openness to learning new things, and having a positive attitude are a must qualities of good Au Pairs.

Also she said that once the Au Pair arrives, it is important to be patient with her while she learns the family.

And last but not least is building a good relationship with your Au Pair. Host family should make the Au Pair feel that she is a part of their family, feel comfortable and happy in the house.

Please watch the movie and find more information about the program.
