Adoptive families and the Au Pair Program.

More and more adoptive families choose the Au Pair Program because Au Pairs connect better with adopted children than nannies. For adoptive families hosting an au pair fulfills two needs: affordable childcare and exposure to a different culture which is very important if a family adopted a child internationally. i love au pairs
The adopted child sees someone of his/her race/ethnicity every day and may learn the language of his/her birth country. Susan Kibler,  the adoptive parent, said, “Au Pair is proud of their own culture. They will bring a different perspective the American families cannot provide,” said  “For the children placed in US homes, knowing about their own culture builds confidence instead of making them feel different or ashamed of their skin color or background.”

With Au Pair Program a host family hosts someone who gets to know the family and the kids and has a complete interest in being a great childcare provider. He/she loves the children instead of it being a job and become a part of the family. The Au Pair develops a special relationship with the kids and boosts a love to a different culture.

Hosting an au pair is not just childcare—it’s a gift of cultural immersion. An Au Pair can bring a lot with their own customs, traditions, language, talents, cuisine, etc.and the children can learn another language.
A new Host Family may be eligible for up to $1,000.00 in discounts! Those who match with an Au Pair from Go Au Pair within 90 days of applying will be eligible to receive $750 off program fees and pay no application fee!

Welcome to Phildadelphia, Lashey Freese!

It’s always great to meet and welcome new  au pairs to our Philadelphia cluster! Lashey Freese, an Au Pair from South Africa is joining us and we all are very excited to meet her! We asked Lashey some questions in order to get to know her better.

  1.  Why do you want to be an Au Pair?
  2. What are your hobbies and interests?
  3. What was the best event/happening during last month?
  4. What three adjectives best describe you?
  5. If you had one wish what would it be?
  6. What place would you like to visit?
  7. What is your favorite way to spend a Saturday?
  8. What was the best compliment you have ever received?
  9. What are two things that you consider yourself to be very good at?

Here are her answers:

“I wanted to be an Au pair because I really enjoying spending time with kids, also to experience a different culture, meeting new people, and being independent.”

“My hobbies and interests are running, taking walks, sight seeing, watching movies, going out.”

“The best event that happened last month, was my brother and my sister both expected babies one week apart.”

“I would describe myself as hardworking, friendly, and playful.”

“I’d wish to achieve all my goals in life.”

“I’d love to visit Paris someday.”

“On Saturday, I love hanging out with friends, having some drinks with lunch or dinner.”

“The nicest compliment, I’ve ever received, was that ‘I’m not only beautiful, but I have a heart of gold.'”

The most unforgettable experience in the United States is the holiday like Thanksgiving Day and Christmas. When Thanksgiving we ate a lot of delicious food and do pray that this is a very unforgettable experience in my life. I’ve got a lot of gifts and saw a lot of beautiful decoration at Christmas…

The Au Pair program helped me learn to be independent, patient, also let me have a very unforgettable experience of American life.

This is a very rare experience I would like to recommend to my friends.Hope that more and more people join  au-pair.Wish everyone to be happy every day!’

Our second new Au Pair: Nicole from Germany

In the last post I wrote about Jenny, our new Au Pair from Germany. Now I have the chance to introduce our second German Au Pair Nicole to you. She answered my interview questions and said a few things about herself. To get to know the new area and have a easy start, she has a buddy: Cherry from South Africa.

Hamburg Skyline

I am 20 years old, turning 21 in July *yippie*. I came from Hamburg, which is a big city in the north of Germany. I finished my A-Levels last year and now it’s up to decide which way to go. I love languages. So I thought about doing something in that direction, but I am also very into psychology and criminology. I am happy when I have the possibility to get to know other people and different life stories. So I am hoping that this travel will be a life-changing experience and that it will be one of my best years. 🙂 Looking forward to meet you!

Hamburg_Rathaus

She characterizes herself as happy, fair, curious.

I want to be an Au Pair,  because I love kids, I always wanted to have siblings, so thats a way to get this experience. And I think it’s one of the best ways to learn the language and to get to know the country.

My love in life is dancing. I like singing, reading and listening to music. Travelling is a huge part of my life. And I guess I could never live without pets.

One of the best things during the last month was that we flew with a little airplane to New Jersey. That was exciting!

If she had one wish it would be: to know what she wants.

First of all, I would like to see Miami. But I would like to see the west coast, too.

I think everything is meant to be. But you still can choose how you handle certain things and that can make a change.

Two things she considers to be very good at are dancing and keeping order.

During the time as an Au Pair in Philadelphia she hopes to learn more about herself and about the country, the people and the way of life.

Nicole, given that it’s  the first time for you in the US as well, I can say – from my own experience – you will have a great year here and we are happy to welcome you in our cluster! And during time in the US you have the chance to travel and learn a lot – one of the things you enjoy to do!

The funnest thing is watching Theo eat him dinner everyday. He used to cover all the food on his face and body. But now he is very good at it. Theo loves eating! He is even love eating sand! Can you imagine how cute this baby is?19 Theo _ eats_ avocado

Helpful Tips for Au Pairs

Below are the tips that may be useful during an Au Pair Journey, check them out and post your own advice below!

n

  • Open Your Mind. You can learn a lot from your host family, your Au Pairs friends from different countries and the people around you.  Just listen and enjoy the encounters with people from a different culture. Get out of your comfort zone and enjoy the unknown.
  • RespectLearn to respect your family’s ways.   Different cultures and families have their own reasons and ways of doing things. Just because the children are raised differently than you were or will raise your children, does not make it wrong.  Respect and follow the host family’s house rules.
  • Trust. To get the most out of your experience, open up to those who are around you. Your host parents  may become trusted mentors that you can easily confide in. Your Local Area Representative, Au Pair Sis and your Au Pairs friends are part of the supported network, you can relay on.
  • Speak up. You need to tell your host family if something is wrong because otherwise they have no way of finding out.  If you don’t know something, ask!  No question is a bad question. Your host family is your main resource for any questions and problems you have while living  together.
  • Have fun. Find out your kids interests and what they like to do.  Plan many activities and have fun together. This will make your job very rewarding and easy. Go out with your host family and friends, Explore new places, go to museums, cultural events, shows,  and concerts. Plan your time ahead, make a list of your favorite place to visit.  Stay connected with other Au Pairs and Au Pair Sis on facebook. Stay positive, outgoing, and enthusiastic.

  • Enjoy your Au Pair Year!

A Chinese Au Pair – a new and a popular host families’ choice

There are many Chinese Au Pairs  in Go Au Pair Philadelphia and NJ cluster and another Au Pair from China just joined us yesterday .   Hosting a  Chinese Au Pair is relatively new option for host families. According to Wikipedia,  in March 2007, Hongbin Yu of Harbin (north of Beijing) was the first Chinese au pair to arrive in the United States.[1]Ying won a photo contest

Several year ago I met my first Chinese Au Pair – Ying.  She helped a single mom to raise three adopted girls. Ying quickly became a real member of the family. When her host mother ended up in the hospital she was the one who took care of the kids. No doubt, that her host mom nominated her for  the Au Pair of the year award.Au Pair Ying and kids

Her mom said,” Ying has a calm manner that sets a good example for the girls…..  She is a wonderful role model for my girls, and I hope that at least some of her initiative rubs off on them! We are indeed fortunate to have such a wonderful young woman with us!”

Last year Ying received Go Au Pair’s exclusive  Au Pair in Excellence Award.aupair excellence

Au Pairs from China are quickly becoming some of our most popular Au Pairs. They are known to be dependable and hard working Au Pairs, who are able to make a smooth transition to life in the United States.

china

In honor of Go Au Pair featured country, families who match with an Au Pair from China in April Go Au Pair agency offered a $100 off the program fees.

An Au Pair and special needs children.

Many Au Pairs have some experience working with children with special needs.  Some Au Pairs are interested in working with special needs children and learning about special needs. They may want the experience for a future career and education.

special needs children

Go Au Pair agency has many available Au Pairs who are willing to work with special needs children.  The family can learn about an Au Pair previous experience of working with children with special needs during the matching process.

For example, an experienced with special needs children nanny and a teacher, an Au Pair from Mexico, Monica.

Monica is a 24 year old, a college graduate, and an infant qualified nanny. Monica has a lot of experience with kids all ages,  she worked in daycare, as a teacher, and as a nanny. She has worked as a nanny with a kid that was handicap, and with children with down syndrome.

Monica loves kids, she said, “I really enjoy the time with the kids and I like being a role model for them. I studied psychology and I have been working with kids since I was 15. I always knew since I was little that I wanted to work with kids.”

Monica

Go Au Pair had  a positive experience with the Au Pairs who were working with special needs children in the past. The agency had many Au Pairs who were doing a great job and went above and beyond what many nannies would do for children with special needs.

Read what the Rush family said about their experience: “[The Au Pair Mariela] quickly learned how to care for her expertly. She was so gentle the first time she taped the oxygen tubing to Serena’s face that I nearly cried. Mariela willingly participated in additional training in CPR and met with Serena’s Physical and Occupational Therapists each week to learn how to work with Serena. Each day she responsibly worked on the exercises the therapists assigned. Serena’s excellent progress (she was able to eat normally and began to gain weight) was possible only because of Mariela’s loving and diligent care.”Mariela-and-Baby

The IAPA Au Pair of the Year was awarded to one of Go Au Pair’s outstanding au pairs–Mariela Poveda.  She cared for a special needs girl and did a great job. Please, watch the movie.

Go Au Pair or Nanny?

The Au Pair program is a childcare option for families who are looking

live in childcare
bi-lingual childcare
flexible childcare
quality childcare
affordable childcare
and a cultural childcare experience.

Many of my host families found the Au Pair program because they were looking for a better child care option. Au Pairs provide a stable child care, but host parents get so much more than that!  They get scheduling flexibility, very reasonable and affordable pay rates for the Au Pairs, and the added benefit of giving their family broader exposure to other languages, lifestyles, and customs.

Why choose Au Pair and Go Au Pair agency?  I think that there are many reasons:

Convenience- schedules you choose, Au Pair child care provides the convenience.

Affordability -a budget you choose, Au Pair child care is the affordable child care.

Cultureculture you choose, Au Pair child care is an unforgettable experience for family.

Professionals -a friendly, knowledgeable and quality Go Au Pair staff provide personalized support to your family;

EaseGo Au Pair’s staff, partners and tools make Au Pair child care the easy option.

Go Au Pair is providing to Host Families affordable childcare more than 24 years from qualified Au Pairs. Au Pairs from our agency have been internationally recognized through IAPA award many times.

Host families from my cluster wrote several reviews about Go Au Pair service about  high quality services  “I personally had very good experience with Go Au Pair local area representative for this area ( Philadelphia , NJ). Read Go Au Pair Host Family testimonials.
