Spring festivals in Hungary

Last week, you could read the first part about many upcoming Hungarian festivals. This is the time, to write you more about the festivals from February to April.

14th February, Valentine’s Day: I do not need to explain this. I used to give little a chocolate to my friends too on Valentine’s Day.
8th March, Women’s Day: This is a special day for little girls, teens, women and ladies. Men give flowers, chocolate or nice greetings to women.I used to have a classmate. Each year on this day, he used to give all of the girls in my class a beautiful yellow rose. I loved it!
15th March: In 1848 a war of independence and revolution breaks out in Hungary, lasts until 1849. This is one of the most significant festivals in my country. Later I will write a post about it…
mainly in March, sometimes in April, Easter: The bunny comes and hides chocolate bunnys and sometimes other presents for the kids.
- Easter Monday is the day when boys and men visit young girls at their houses. They used to come with a huge (or two) pail full with water, asked for the girl to come out and poured the water on her in return for painted eggs. This is an old folk habit. Nowadays, this habit is about to die out (unfortunately)..Men and boys come only with smelly cologne and parfume…
