Can an au pair care for a child with special needs?

Au Pairs are allowed to care for special needs children if the Au Pair has specifically identified their prior experience, skills or training in the care of special needs children. Some Au Pairs have previous experience working with special needs kids, early childhood education and pediatric nursing in their countries. Many Au Pairs volunteered at orphanages, hospitals and other places that required a special care experience.

There are usually a few Au Pairs who are working with the families with special needs child/children in the Au Pair cluster in Philadelphia, Bucks County and NJ. Those Au Pairs have previous documented experience caring for special needs children.

Also, the host family must sign an agreement indicating that they both recognize and accept the Au Pair’s level of experience.

We have  Au Pair Plus program and  Premiere Au Pair program that give more options to the parents who are looking for a very experienced Au Pair. Many of our available Au Pairs have broad experiences and are interested in caring for children with special needs.

 

 

What kind of education and experience do the Au Pairs have?

We have a variety of candidates with different types of education and experience at   Go Au Pair.  We also have different Au Pair programs that help families to find a candidate they need.

Many Au pairs  have university degrees. We have Au Pairs who graduated from Medical, Business or Law school or have other degrees, many of them use this program as an opportunity to polish their English skills when they are in the USA.

Many Au Pairs have significant experience in childcare-related fields, including early childhood education, teaching, and pediatric nursing. Some Au Pairs are teachers with a lot of previous experience working with kids.  Go Au Pair has Au Pair Plus program and Premiere Au Pair program that give more option to the parents who are looking for an Au Pair with special experience and education.

Many parents value the opportunity of having a global education experience. The Au Pairs are interested in teaching the kids, learning from others and exploring their similarities and differences.

After their stay in the US, Au Pairs will go back to their home country and continue their job relating to child care training, education and experience.  Many Au Pairs decide to extend their experience for another year. Upon their return home, Au Pairs plan to pursue their studies or continue their professional careers.

 

 

 

Different Au Pair programs

There are many options to meet families  child care, scheduling and budgetary needs.

Go Au Pair offers five types of Au Pair programs.

Standard Au Pair Program
The Standard Au Pair program is by far Go Au Pair’s most popular child care program for both Host Families and Au Pairs.

Au Pair Plus Program
Au Pairs participating in the Au Pair Plus program must have previous experience as an Au Pair in another country in addition to the requirements for the Standard Au Pair program.

Premiere Au Pair Program
Au Pairs in this program are required to have additional experience than Standard and Au Pair Plus.

EduCare Au Pair Program
Educare Au Pairs work 30 hours per week instead of 45, so their weekly stipend is lower than the other programs. Educare Au Pair are the only Au Pairs not permitted to care for children under the age of 2 even if they have experience caring for infants.

Au Pair Again Program
This program allows former Au Pairs to return to the U.S. again with their original family or with a new one.
